Micro Institution Building: An Experience
We are in micro institutions building in the states of Orissa, Rajasthan and Haryana. Our role involves facilitation measures for Cooperatives, Community Interest Groups (CIGs), Self Help Groups (SHGs), and SHG Federations. The SHGs and the CIGs are small, informal, homogeneous and affinity group of people, voluntarily coming together with others who are affected by a particular issue (experience, disadvantage, discrimination, etc) to support each other and to work together to change the disadvantage affecting them. Activities that groups include micro finance, income generation, community education, information, mutual support, services and advocacy.
Income Generation Programmes (IGPs)
Our initiative in the income generation programmes (IGPs) front is to provide facilitating measures to the formed Community level Micro institutions in the targeted project areas to take up feasible entrepreneurial activities to generate income on a sustainable basis.
Further IGP, besides micro-finance, is one of the prime motivating factors in the sustainability process of institution building. This enhances and broadens their employment opportunities including self-employment and development of entrepreneurial skills.
