Sustainable Income Generation Activities: Dairying as Income Generation Activity for Women SHGs in Rewari and Khol Blocks of Rewari District, Haryana
Livestock is not only the part of the farming system but also a source of employment, food and income sources for the households in Haryana. Most of the work involving livestock management is considered the traditional responsibility of women. To make livestock development programmes more effective it is imperative to involve women in a greater way.
Objective
To provide facilitating and enabling measures to the targeted Women Self Help Groups (WSHGs) in the Rewari district of Haryana to participate in the Rural Enterprise Development Programme for sustainable income generation through dairy as an income generation programme.
Beneficiaries
As part of the dairying as income generation programme, the WSHGs were organized under two women cooperatives in both the targeted villages . In total 76 woman beneficiaries from Tatarpur Khalsa of Rewari block and Dahani Kolna village of Khol block were benefited from the programme directly.
Activity Interventions
- Publicity, awareness and motivational campaign
- Skill survey of the for formation of Women Self Help Groups (WSHGs)
- Identification and Selection of beneficiaries
- Formation of WSHGs
- Formation of Dairy Cooperative of the WSHGs at Rewari and Khol blocks
- Training on Skill development
- Exposure visits to various computerized and successful functioning dairy cooperatives, and chilling centres
- Convergence route of linkages for milk collection from the milk producers and members and supply of collected milk on a regular basis to various milk chilling centers and milk plants of Haryana Government without the involvement of any intermediaries
- Strengthening of women dairy cooperative through advance training on milk production enhancement and quality assurance
