Workshop on Disaster Management for School Teachers

Workshop on Disaster Management for School TeachersOur scientists have made great strides in understanding natural disaster including attempt for disaster preparedness by collecting and analyzing data through various instrumentalities. We have also developed automated system of meteorological and earthquake observation and predictions through advance computer system and equipments. Our entire economy, as agriculture is a major component of our economy, is totally dependent on natural process and predictions. Our advanced knowledge in science and particularly disaster preparedness need to be communicated to our youth so as to create the required knowledge and optimize our human resources potential.

Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries are teachers, students and parents from schools of NCR Delhi. The focus was on teachers as it was assumed that the teachers are the best medium to replicate the learning on a wider scale in the society through the students’ community. The other participants were scientists from the Department of Science & Technology; India Meteorological Department; National Institute of Disaster Management; Central Soil and Materials Research Station, Govt. of India.

Objective

  • To explain the teachers about the various dimension of natural disaster: earthquake, cyclone, etc.
  • To educate the teachers about the causes and effects of natural disaster and preparedness
  • To explain about earthquake observation & terminologies, and different rules to obey during a sudden occurrence of an earthquake
  • To explain about meteorological observation & terminologies, climate change and impact on society
  • To educate about post disaster mitigation

Methodology

The methodology was interactive participation based on Lecture on Power Point presentation cum audio visual demonstration on natural disaster, booklets on disaster management, booklet on earthquake, leaflets on earthquake and meteorology and Banners on natural disaster.
